ABOUT

Benjamin Villela is a Chilean film director, photographer and visual storyteller working across commercials, documentary and sport-driven narratives. His work is built around cinematography, rhythm and atmosphere, with a strong interest in images that feel crafted, emotional and alive.

His approach to directing comes from a deep respect for film craft: the crew, the light, the movement, the silence before a scene, and the small decisions that turn an idea into a cinematographic experience. He is drawn to stories where real people, landscapes and culture carry the emotional weight of the frame.

Before fully dedicating himself to visual work, Benjamin graduated law with honors, a background that sharpened the way he observes people, conflict and truth. His practice later expanded through photography, covering major sporting events such as the Youth Olympic Games and the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games for Team Chile, where one of his images was awarded Best Photograph of the tournament.

Today, his work moves between commercial films, documentary projects and long-term visual explorations across Latin America. His personal projects focus on sport as identity, ritual, memory and place, especially through his work with Indigenous communities in Rapa Nui.

His work has received international recognition, including a Gold Award at the ND Awards and a shortlist at the Sony World Photography Awards.
